Polishing, Tarnish & Oxidation
Tarnishing is a natural process with real Sterling Silver. It does not mean your jewellery is damaged or low quality. In fact, the presence of tarnish is one of the clearest signs that your piece is made from
genuine silver.
Sterling Silver reacts with elements in the air and environment over time, which can cause the surface to darken slightly. This is
completely normal and easily reversible.
- Use the complimentary polishing cloth included with your order to restore shine and brightness.
- Gently polish the surface using light pressure.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh polishing products unless specifically recommended for sterling silver.
One of the benefits of real silver is that it can always be restored. Unlike plated base metals, brass, or stainless steel, solid sterling silver can be polished repeatedly to bring back its original finish and colour.
Interestingly, regular wear can actually help slow tarnishing. The natural oils in your skin can reduce oxidation, which means wearing your jewellery often can help keep it looking brighter over time.
